Sarah's First Blog Post

My name's Sarah, and I am 18 years old. I graduated from Wynford High School, but I'm currently attending The Ohio State University at Marion with a major in English. I am the middle child. I have two sisters, One older, and one younger. My older sister, Jennifer, actually graduated from OSU with the same major as I. A unique fact about me is, I had the honor of being an All American cheerleader during my high school career

There are many passages from Richard Hugo's The Triggering Town  that I found interesting. One of my favorites comes from chapter one, page five. it says, "In the world of imagination, all things belong." This interested me because I felt as if he was talking directly to me. To me, he's saying anything you can think of will make sense if you let it, and believe it.

  1. Hi Sarah, I didn't catch the passage you pointed out from chapter one during my first reading. I agree with what you're saying about it. I also think he's letting us know that we have a license as writers to think freely and to be imaginative, which is very important in poetry and in all writing. I'm really glad you pointed this out.

  2. I also love the quote you pointed out, Sarah. It seems to say that no idea is a stupid idea, so it's nearly impossible to make mistakes. And I think that having the possibility of mistakes eliminated simultaneously eliminates most possibility of writer's block.

  3. I think it's really cool that you cheerlead- I love to watch it but could never do it! I too really like this quote. To me it basically says that there is no right or wrong in the world of writing poetry. It encourages you to not hold back and let whatever comes to mind work itself out in writing.
